Mason Greenwood in the Spotlight for Interest from English Clubs, While Man Utd Contemplates Contract Resolution

On Monday, Manchester United revealed their decision for Mason Greenwood to depart from Old Trafford following the club's internal inquiry.

English teams have reportedly reached out to Manchester United regarding the potential transfer of Mason Greenwood.

Manchester United officially announced on Monday their decision to part ways with 21-year-old Greenwood, as he aims to pursue his professional journey "away from Old Trafford."

The talented forward, who has represented England once, had been under internal scrutiny at United after charges related to attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, as well as assault causing bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.

With Manchester United's confirmation of Greenwood's impending departure, speculation has surged about his next destination.

According to reports from ESPN, various clubs both domestically and internationally have already initiated contact with United, expressing their interest in acquiring the services of the academy graduate.

The contractual agreement binds Greenwood until 2025, with an additional 12-month extension at the club's discretion.

As the summer transfer window concludes on September 1, the clock is ticking with just 10 days left for the Red Devils to finalize a potential move.

Insider sources indicate that a mutual understanding might be reached, leading to the termination of Greenwood's contract, thereby allowing him to depart without any transfer fee.

In this scenario, Manchester United does not intend to profit from the departure of the 21-year-old player.

However, in the event of any financial gain, the club plans to engage in discussions about the optimal utilization of the funds generated.

While speculation centers around potential landing spots in Saudi Arabia or Turkey, the priority remains on facilitating Greenwood's career comeback, especially as he recently embraced fatherhood.

Since his last competitive match in January 2022, Manchester United is committed to supporting Greenwood in reclaiming the momentum of his once-flourishing career.

CEO Richard Arnold explained: "While I am satisfied that Mason did not commit the acts he was charged with, Mason's accepted that he has made mistakes which he takes responsibility for."

"I am also mindful of the challenge that Mason would face rebuilding his career and raising a baby together with his partner in the harsh spotlight of Manchester United. Further, this case has provoked strong opinions, and it is my responsibility to minimise any distraction to the unity we are seeking within the club."

"Although we have decided that Mason will seek to rebuild his career away from Manchester United, that does not signal the end of this matter. The club will continue to offer its support both to the alleged victim and Mason to help them rebuild and move forward positively with their lives."
